Rev. Caleb J. Schauer served as St. John’s second Vicar (seminary intern) from Nov. 2004 until Nov. 2005. He graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO in 2006 and was ordained at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Chugiak, AK. Pastor Caleb was St. John's first Associate Pastor from Sept. 2006 to Feb. 2008 and was installed as Senior Pastor on Feb. 24, 2008. Pastor Caleb, son of Rev. Ken and Sandi Schauer, was born in Austin, TX on Apr. 7, 1975 and baptized. He was confirmed in Ashton, ID. After attending the Univ. of Idaho in Moscow, ID he graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Schauer worked for almost five years designing roads and water/sewer lines in Anchorage, AK. While there he met Melanie Grunenwald, a Minnesota native; they were married on January 2, 1999. Schauer also worked as a lay assistant with the Alaska Mission for Christ. He credits working in real ministry situations as the primary influence leading to his decision to attend seminary. His vicarage internship experience also offered valuable hands-on experience. He and his family were warmly received. In planning for the future of the congregation, St. John’s voters decided a second pastor would be beneficial, and extended a Call to him. The Schauer children include: Malachi, Gideon, Hannah, Gabrielle and Selah. They enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and backpacking. Racquetball and woodworking are also among Pastor Schauer’s favorite activities, while his wife Melanie enjoys gardening and teaching their children. |

Rev. Timothy E. Schutt (pronounced "shoot") was born to Alfred and Theresa Schutt on April 27, 1983 in Yuma, AZ. He has a brother Chris who is married to Nicole, and a sister Lani. While growing up Tim and his family moved around several times due to his father’s career in the Marine Corps, living in Yuma, AZ, Kaneohe, HI, Oceanside, CA and then back to Yuma, AZ. In 2001 Tim graduated from Kofa High School in Yuma, AZ. He attended college at Concordia University in Irvine, CA; and graduated in 2005 with a Bachelors degree in Theology. While attending Concordia, Tim was very active with student government serving as Intramural Director, a Peer Advisor Leader (PAL) for incoming students, and a coordinator for the new student orientation program. Upon graduating from Concordia, he began attending classes at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. Tim did his vicarage at Light of the Hills Lutheran Church in Cameron Park, CA. On April 22, 2009, Tim received a Divine Call to serve as Associate Pastor at St. John’s in Union. On May 22, 2009, Tim graduated from Concordia Seminary St. Louis with a Masters in Divinity. June 14, 2009, Tim was ordained at his home congregation, Christ Lutheran Church in Yuma, AZ.

Norman S. Meyer Homebound Visitation Pastor |
Rev. Norman S. Meyer, a 1970 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO was first called to Plymouth, England. His second call, in 1975, was to St. John's, Union. Pastor and wife Jane have three adult children and three grandchildren. Pastor Meyer served 34 years in ministry among God's precious people at St. John's and the Union/Marengo area. In Feb. 2008 he became Associate Pastor and served on a half-time basis until retiring Jan. 11, 2009. Since Easter 2009, Pastor Meyer visits and ministers to shut-ins.

Lauren K. Olsen Deaconess |
Deaconess Lauren K. Olsen, has served more than 18 years in ministry among and with God's people at St. John's. Deaconess Lauren is a 1987 graduate of the Deaconess Program, Concordia University Chicago at River Forest, IL. She also earned a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and worked with emotionally disturbed young people. She received her Master of Arts in Religion in 1995. Deaconess Lauren serves St. John's in the areas of Youth Ministry, Assimilation, Parish Programming, Evangelism, Visitation, Care Ministry, DivorceCare, GriefShare, and Counseling. Her greatest joy are those "aha" moments that she witnesses as people experience the love of God. She is married to Steve Olsen and has an adult stepson, Eric, living in Virginia. Deaconess Lauren enjoys reading, cooking and gardening in her spare time. |
